Vastu School of Yoga Mexico is ranked #9 of activities in Isla Mujeres on Trip Advisor
An excellent REAL yoga experience in a beautiful setting. Sometimes, “vacation yoga” can be just a series of stretches or breathing exercises. Vastu Yoga in Isla Mujeres was an actual, serious yoga class with an instructor who adjusts each student in the class for each pose, as needed — I felt stretched, awakened, invigorated, and ready to start the day with a clear mind. Highly recommend it.

While spending a wonderful 12 days on Isla Mujeres, Mexico this past month, I attended 3 drop-in yoga classes led by Laurie at Na Balam Hotel and Resort. They were wonderfully challenging and professionally led yoga classes. I have attended many types of yoga classes over the years. This was one of the best. A good mix of meditation, stretching and postures all in a gorgeous setting overlooking the Caribbean Sea…

Lorrie and Lal are truly amazing people and instructors. From the first class (of 5), I was doing yoga poses that I thought would take months of practice to even attempt. I felt an emotional release in that first class that I have never experienced with yoga back at home. Theirs is a holistic teaching method focused on breath, body, light, and presence… I would highly recommend these classes to anyone, regardless of ability level (I myself am a beginner and not flexible). I love Isla Mujeres for many reasons, but during this latest trip, my yoga class was definitely the highlight.

I had been doing yoga for many years now all over the world and met many teachers and experienced many styles.Never had a chance to get to know Sivananda school before. I found it intense, real, close to the Truth. I had an amazing privilege to take Lal’s classes that were very focused and enlightening. It was a beautiful adventure for my body and soul. If you are serious about your practice (or just getting there), I highly recommend taking classes at Na Balam. Namaste.

Spent almost two weeks on the island. Visited Vastu yoga once just to try it and was drawn back almost every day for the rest of my stay. Beautiful location, affordable, very inspiring for advanced yogis but also suitable for beginners as Lorrie and Lal are helpful, engaging and hands on assisting you with every movement. You will feel like a pro when you manage your first head stand ever in your life during your first class there. I never imagined I could bend those ways they made me bend Complete experience with meditation, relaxing, breath work, singing and mantras. Don’t worry if you don’t know anything about that as you can always just sit in silence and enjoy. I felt like I was progressing and becoming stronger each day. Cannot be missed!

I took 3 classes with Lorrie and Lal at Yoga Life at Na Balam and feel that the experience shifted my life in a new direction. That sounds like an exaggeration, but it’s not. I have done a ton of yoga over several decades, and these classes were pinnacle experiences. The classes are classical yoga in the Sivananda style, combining the spiritual with the physical through relaxation, breath work, sun salutations and challenging asanas (poses). There is a magical quality to the reverence with which the pair teach, and I ended up bringing my husband and my daughters (11 and 13) to class as well. All of us were challenged and inspired. We ended up getting to know Lorrie and Lal a bit outside of the studio and am sure we will be in touch with them on a lifelong basis, such was the depth of the connection we made with them. If you are looking for a meaningful, life-enhancing experience, beyond the popular yoga-as-exercise or yoga-as-stretching trends out there, you will be gratified with the Vatsu Yoga classes!
