About Us
Serve. Love. Give. Purify. Meditate. Realize.

At Vastu School of Yoga we teach and practice an integral style of yoga. Our teachings positively affect not just the physical body, but also the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects.

While we are registered members of Yoga Alliance, our approach links back to the roots of yoga itself, to the ancient sacred texts of India, the Vedas, and the sciences of Vastu and Ayurveda Shastras. We honor these sciences with a practice that contemplates asanas as more than physical positions, but as sacred geometry. We teach proper exercise, diet, relaxation, breathing and thinking to balance the five elements: earth, water, fire, air and space.

Swami Sivananda, one of the greatest Yoga masters and Ayurvedic doctors of the 20th century, is the inspiration behind Vastu Yoga. The essence of our lineage is captured in these six words: Serve, Love, Give, Purify, Meditate, Realize.

Vastu is Sanskrit for “dwelling place.”

Lorrie & Lal

Co-founders, accomplished yogi masters and healers, Lorrie Conglose (right) and Lal Maharajh (left) are the visionaries behind Vastu Yoga. They both trained in the Sivananda lineage, under Bharata, a senior disciple of Swami Vishnudevananda.

Growing up in Ramrick Sadhu Sewala (temple), yoga was a part of Lal’s life from a very early age. He received initiation and mantras from his guru Pujya Sat Gurudev Pundit Lutchmee Persad, who ardently followed Swami Sivananda`s teachings of karma service. In 1964, Lal received Janeau (sacred thread).

Lorrie has studied yoga at the Sivananda Ashrams in India, the Bahamas and New York. She is a licensed massage therapist, certified in Reiki, Thai Yoga, and experienced in aromatherapy, relaxation imagery and pain management through breath work. She has also worked as a holistic therapist for hospice, and has taught yoga extensively to children, adults, seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Both Lorrie and Lal are individually registered with Yoga Alliance at the E-RYT 500 level. Their commitment to the healing properties of yoga has allowed them to travel the world, and together they have trained hundreds of yoga teachers.

Yoga rooted in authentic tradition.
Classes

With hands-on assistance, we focus on proper breathing and alignment. We bring the joy of mantra and meditation into each class, helping new and practiced yogis find their balance. Through this chakra-specific yoga practice, Vastu helps each student to channel their energy in each pose.

In our classes, we honor and protect the body, no matter your physical condition. We understand that yoga asanas are intended to prepare the body for meditation, as well as keep the bodily systems in top shape. We encourage students to come to their edge, never forcing a pose or competing with others or themselves. While deep muscular release and very advanced practices are achievable, the number one priority is to practice ahimsa, non-injury. Our classes are a perfect fit for all students. Whether you are an accomplished yogi or a beginner, there is a spot for your mat in our classroom.

By Donation Teacher Trainings

Our “Pay it Forward” initiative provides quality trainings by donation. Our teacher training is taught during a 21-day yoga immersion. We teach techniques that can be used for the rest of your life to deepen your practice and navigate the art of teaching others.

Our training is comprehensive and thorough. You will learn and become proficient in both practicing and teaching both Yoga and her sister science Ayurveda, including asanas, assisting, yoga physiology, yoga philosophy, the chakras and their mystical meanings, sacred yoga texts, pranayama and breathing, a yogic diet, meditation and traditional sanskrit chanting.

During our immersions, we ask that our students maintain a vegetarian diet and withdraw from stimulants such as caffeine, Internet and TV, as well as depressants such as alcohol and drugs. If you would like to earn your 200-hour yoga teacher certification, or if you simply want to find an authentic spiritual connection, our teacher training is for you.

Therapy

Private ayurveda yoga sessions are a gentle soothing and relaxing way to deal with physical, emotional and mental dis-ease. Our body is sometimes referred to as our subconscious mind, and holds the key to our healing. These private sessions include placing you in passive and gentle yoga poses, along with Reiki, Thai massage and Aromatherapy, allowing you to completely relax and learn to identify and let go off energetic blocks and imbalances. Deep physical and emotional releases are most often experienced by the receiver.

Lorrie haas worked as a Holistic Therapist for hospice, offered ayurveda yoga in nursing homes, hospitals, to adults and children with multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, scoliosis, arthritis, back pain and injuries. Lorrie has also helped many individuals with chronic pain and breathing disorders such as COPD, and helped many clients with depression and anxiety.

Ayurveda yoga sessions usually last for 1 – 1.5 hours and are individually tailored to meet your need. Clients do not need any prior yoga experience. Therapy is provided either on a mat, chair, or massage table. Home sessions may be available depending upon your location. Contact us below for more information.

From Our Students
Practicing yoga at Vastu really transported me to another world – the great location just a few meters from the sea and the excellent teacher Lal made me feel immersed both physically and spiritually. They have classes everyday so you can be always assisted and enjoy the atmosphere of the island with a deep perspective – I wish I had more time on the island to practice there everyday! Juliana

I’ve been taking yoga for many years beginning with Richard Hittelman on black and white tv, and this was one of the best experiences ever. While the setting helped, the classes were simple, instructive, and helped facilitate a mental cleansing that was a perfect complement for a vacation. Lorrie and Lal were thoughtful teachers who balanced instruction with humor and insight. Usually I find myself waiting for the class to get over, but not with these. In the “small world” category we discovered that Lorrie is from Athens, Ga. where we take many of our classes and that she and Lal had trained some of our instructors. I hope to have more of these classes in the future. Syd

I took 3 classes with Lorrie and Lal at Yoga Life at Na Balam and feel that the experience shifted my life in a new direction. That sounds like an exaggeration, but it’s not. I have done a ton of yoga over several decades, and these classes were pinnacle experiences. The classes are classical yoga in the Sivananda style, combining the spiritual with the physical through relaxation, breath work, sun salutations and challenging asanas (poses). There is a magical quality to the reverence with which the pair teach, and I ended up bringing my husband and my daughters (11 and 13) to class as well. All of us were challenged and inspired. We ended up getting to know Lorrie and Lal a bit outside of the studio and am sure we will be in touch with them on a lifelong basis, such was the depth of the connection we made with them. If you are looking for a meaningful, life-enhancing experience, beyond the popular yoga-as-exercise or yoga-as-stretching trends out there, you will be gratified with the Vatsu Yoga classes! Judy
